Robert Snodgrass announces Scotland retirement

Scotland winger Robert Snodgrass has announced his retirement. The 32-year-olds final appearance arrived from Scotland European Qualifier defeat away to Russia on October 10, as Steve Clarkes side conceded three goals at 13 second-half minutes. Snodgrass secured his first cap in February 2011 and went on to represent his country 28 times. Adhering to the setback in Moscow last week, the West Ham participant withdrew at Hampden Park on Sunday from Scotlands squad before the 6-0 demolition of San Marino. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to live my childhood dream, its been such a distinctive sense pulling on that Scotland jersey because I was 16 years old. Snodgrass wrote on Instagram. There has been lots of

highs throughout my international career which I will always recall with fondness, such as my debut from Northern Ireland, winning two international player of the year awards, and also my hat-trick in Malta. Its now the ideal time for me to step aside though and retire in the Scotland national group and let the boys and younger gamers choose my place and hopefully push the squad forward. I need to especially invite the Tartan Army for the special support you have showed me over the years. I wont ever forget that. A huge thank you also belongs to everyone at the SFA for looking after me since I was a young boy, such as FrankReilly, Doc McLean, Jonesy, managers, coaches, team, the physios, massage therapists, apparel guys and the media team Ive worked with over the years. I will now watch as a lover and I expect to see us perform at a significant tournament again shortly - fingers crossed the boys do it come March! Snodgrass departs with Clarkes Scotland not able to qualify for Euro 2020 at the standard method since they are 12 points behind Russia in Group I with two games left, but theyre still able to be eligible via the play-offs. The midfielder has showcased six occasions this year after registering a contract extension in the London Arena in July.
