Leafs deal Kadri to Avs for Barrie, Kerfoot
Two veterans departed the only NHL teams they have played , as the Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Nazem Kadri on Monday in a deal that sent defenseman Tyson Barrie into the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Colorado also picked up defenseman Calle Rosen plus a 2020 draft pick . Toronto also got ahead Alex Kerfoot along with a 2020 sixth-round selection. In addition the Avalanche are retaining half of the $5.5 million cap hit on the last period of Barrie's contract.
Kadri conveys a cap hit of $4.5 million throughout each of the next three seasons as a piece of a six-year, $27 million deal he signed April 2016, based on capfriendly.com.
Kadri, 28, played 10 seasons in Toronto, compiling 161 goals and 196 assists in 561 games.
"Nazem is a proven goal scorer and a fierce competitor who performs in most situations," Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said
in a statement. "He's under contract to another three seasons and will immediately fit right in as our second-line center and improve our scoring depth.
Last seasonhe produced 16 goals and 28 assists in 73 games. However, he had been suspended for the rest of the first round of the playoffs after cross-checking the Boston Bruins' Jake DeBrusk during Game 2. Toronto ended up being removed in Game 7 of the series.
It was the spring in a row in which Kadri was suspended during the postseason. In April 2018, Kadri obtained a three-game ban for dressing Boston's Tommy Wingels at Game 1 of a first-round series. As with the next season, the Maple Leafs lost in seven games to the Bruins.
27, barrie, spent eight seasons with the Avalanche, putting 75 aims and 232 assists up. He had 14 goals and 45 assists last season.

"With the arrival and development of Samuel Girard and Cale Makar, in addition to the recent draft selection of Bowen Byram, we felt it was time to move in this course with Tyson's contract expiring next summer."
Kerfoot, 24, has played with 157 NHL games, all at the past two seasons with the Avalanche. He had 19 goals and 24 assists as a rookie in 2017-18, then 15 goals and 27 assists in 2018-19.
Rosen, 25, appeared in four games to the Maple Leafs each of the previous two seasons. He has just one NHL goal and one assist.
